Jeff's Big Weekend - Western Sates 100
Published by
I'm going to resist writing a small book here on the Western States effort Jeff just put forth. Perhaps we can get him to tell his story. Briefly, Jeff has always been a very determined guy, and he took that to WS 100 2006. He came away with a less than satisfied 27+ hr finish .... HIS goal was 24 or better, not just finishing. But he went to shool the last three years, gained some vaulable experience, and came back this time better prepared, much stronger physically and mentally. On a day when almost half the field eventually dropped due to some very hot conditions (100 - 105), Jeff ran smart early, stayed on a strict gel schedule throughout, and when it was time to buckle down and 'make time' in the last 35 miles, he locked in and refused to let anything stop him. Not even a calf issue that really started to pain him around mile 80. He knew he was ahead of the 24 splits, and he concentrated soley on that. He can hardly walk today, but he perservered the last five hours and crossed the line in a fabulous 23:22:49 ! 56th overall and 50th male finisher. Hopefully we can get him to tell his story here soon. As for us, Solo and I will have plenty of stories to share on the trail this summer. We had a blast. p
